We spent a few days between Christmas and New Year in Copenhagen, Denmark’s charming capital. The city comes alive on New Year’s Eve with fireworks lighting up the sky over the harbour and the iconic spires of the old town. In actual fact it is more like a war zone. Fireworks are being let off on every street corner as the new year approaches. They sell safety goggles in the supermarkets - and now I know why!
Nyhavn, with its colourful townhouses and historic wooden ships, provides the perfect backdrop for the celebrations. The Danes know how to ring in the new year with style - from the traditional jumping off chairs at midnight to the spectacular fireworks display at Tivoli Gardens.
