Burano and Murano, The Venice Lagoon25 August 2018A visit to Venice is not complete without a trip to some of the other Islands in the Venetian Lagoon by boat buses and ferries.
St Mark's Venice21 August 2018A trip to Venice has to include a visit to St Mark’s Square. Even if you don’t set out to find it as you weave your way through the narrow streets of Venice, you will at some point stumble out of the shadows into this most incredible plaza.
Venice at Sunrise14 August 2018Venice is such a unique place, built in the middle of the sea; a busy, bustling place, without a single car! It’s colourful buildings line the network of waterways and canals that criss-cross the city.
Florence, Italy31 July 2018Florence is the capital city of Italy’s Tuscany region. It is home to some of the greatest art works in the world, housed in it’s myriad of museums, churches and palaces.
Pisa, Italy25 July 2018Pisa is famous for its wonky tower, though after two weeks in Italy, it is clear that it is not the only wonky tower in this country. Apparently built without sufficient foundations, it has now been made safe enough for tourists to climb up it. Superman tried to straighten it in the film, if you remember, but without a wonky tower perhaps people wouldn’t visit Pisa.
Marina Di Pietrasanta, Italy19 July 2018Mountains and Beach in one Place! First stop on our trip to Italy was Marina Di Pietrasanta, a rather pleasant spot on the Tuscany coast of Italy, just half and hour from Pisa airport.
Birmingham Under Construction25 June 2018This shot was taken from The Secret Garden at Birmingham’s impressive library. The Library The Library is an incredible building, but the surrounding area is mostly behind hoardings, that disguise the rather extensive work going on to reshape the city. It’s a bit of a mess at present and has been since 12 months ago when I last visited.
Mulgrave Castle, Near Whitby16 June 2018Desperate to try out my new Panasonic G80, we headed out to Sandsend, near Whitby in North Yorkshire. Though with such dull weather, these images suffer from lack of more interesting light.
St Petersburg13 June 2018The World Cup is set to kick-off in Russia this week. We visited the city of St Petersburg last summer while on a cruise which called at several Baltic cities. Preparations were well under way for the tournament then. I’m not sure if the subs will still be on duty in St Petersburg this week, but this view from our tour bus window caught my eye.
Central Arcade, Newcastle3 June 2018Built in 1837 for Richard Grainger, as a commercial exchange. It was rebuilt in 1906 after a fire. Now a pretty place to do some shopping.
